RED NOTICE
BY BILL BROWDER

“History taught us that anyone can be killed” – a foreboding message sent to Bill Browder.
First published in 2016, ‘Red Notice’ by Bill Browder is an account of the financier’s first-hand experience of Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. A real-life portrayal of corruption, murder and one man’s fight for justice. Fraud and bribery is exposed at every turn. A great book club choice.
Described as one of Putin’s “most wanted” this story charts Browder’s ambitious journey into the investment world in the 1990s starting in New York and London and leading him into the turbulent post Soviet Union Moscow where ruthless oligarchs operated, investment deals secured by all against the shadowy heart of the Kremlin.
Bill Browder came from an unusual American family who were blighted by their communist roots, established by his grandfather, Earl Browder, who headed the American Communist Party in the 1930s. ‘Red Notice’ is a true story of Bill Browder’s journey as a young ambitious financier whose capitalist ambition leads him naively to a new financial frontier in Russia. His pursuit was smart, however his endeavours resulted in a human hostage, his lawyer Sergei Magnitsky.
Accused of tax evasion by corrupt police officers Browder and his lawyer were issued with an Interpol ‘red notice’, which is an arrest warrant that would mean he would be extradited to Russia.
The narrative is delivered by Browder as a compelling and chilling story – one that will stir any book club.
