MADAME BOVARY

A classic
everyone should
take on.

Set in rural Rouen in France in the mid-nineteenth century, the novel tells the story of Emma Bovary.  Beautiful and bored in a trapped marriage, Emma is seeking romance elsewhere. Expect to be presented with emotional dilemmas and plenty of misguided decisions.

The book divided us down the middle, of those who absolutely loved the book and those who were frustrated by Emma’s inability to see what she was doing. However, because we were split on our views it provided great debate.

Flaubert gets under the skin of his characters and it is a passionate and erotically charged novel.  Even in translation it is beautiful prose. A classic everyone should take on.
