With the NHS top of our mind for many of us, 'This is Going to Hurt' by Adam Kay provides some comic relief especially for those with a child birth experience recent or otherwise! Kay's narrative is based on his own reflective diary entries of life as a junior doctor on the "obs and gynae" ward and it remains a hilarious and crushing tale - warts and all.

Many of us, have our own gob-stopping hospital experiences, but to hear how precarious it really is directly from the mouth of a doctor with such honesty and blunt humour takes your breath away as well as shameless laugh out loud moments. If we didn't already, we all came away admiring the unquestioning commitment of doctors and all NHS staff. The book gave us lots to talk about, not least because in the end the NHS has lost out on a totally committed and excellent doctor.
