'Rebecca' is a romantic gothic thriller by Daphne Du Maurier and makes a wonderful book club classic, whether it’s your first reading, a re-read or because you’ve heard about the new Netflix remake starring Lily James, Armie Hammer and Kristin Scott Thomas, which we predict will be out this autumn. An ideal summer read for a staycation at home or by the sea, 'Rebecca' is a fabulous fast paced novel that will keep you on your toes! Definitely a page-turner in the Den.
A funny and poignant debut novel about parenting, racism and class. Reid’s writing has a fresh and insightful quality which exposes these issues with humour and truthfulness.
This debut coming of age novel submerges you into Baton Rouge so gracefully that you can feel the sweltering heat, taste the southern food and feel part of this wonderfully tight-knit community.

Not just bright but sparkling for July!

As we have learnt to be ever more creative the BBC has filmed Alan Bennett's Talking Heads during lock down. This reminds us how much we love this great writer's work and his appreciation of the individual. As the Den's Book of the Moment we have chosen to revisit these much loved monologues.

If you are looking for lyrical beauty and a story of substance then we highly recommend Where the Crawdads Sing a popular and powerful debut novel circulating in book clubs as a 9/10 read. And even 10/10 for some. Finally in the mix is our black diamond read My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell a book that explores a dangerous and manipulative relationship - hence our Wild Card choice in the Den.
