JANUARY DO'S (not blues) with The Reading Den

On December 5th the Den was thrilled to host a Literary Laugh Book Club Quiz at the Omnibus Theatre in support of its charity Routes. This was a local event for book clubs and literary lovers and was a fantastic way to celebrate with good friends. The Quiz was a brilliant collection of games, quizzes and rounds that would work in a home or public setting. If you think this is something your book club can enjoy next year check out the Literary Laughs website here for more information. What's more you can raise money for your favourite charity be it local or something dear to your heart.

The Literary Laughs initiative also invited book clubs to vote for their favourite reads of the year  - the results of which were announced on Quiz Night in December. Educated by Tara Westover came tops (and one in of our new entries in Den's Dozen last year), followed by Becoming by Michelle Obama (also reviewed by RD) and a popular Pat Barker title, The Silence of the Girls

RD was privileged to see the super talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge in conversation with the hilarious Deborah Frances-White in London. If you didn't get Fleabag The Scriptures in your stocking (but have the book vouchers) we suggest this makes the perfect new year treat for self. Containing the filming scripts of both series of Fleabag, it also includes notes from Phoebe Waller-Bridge on the writing of the brilliant and very funny TV show and she has even left a blank page at the back entitled "Write like you're not afraid" so you can start your own writing - perhaps a New Year's Resolution!
